Description
As a compliment to the panoramic Bay views from this room that illustrate the sun setting into the Pacific ocean, the sun rise depicted in this set of doors represents the new chapter of this home’s life rising from the ashes of its old life. Outlining the sun rays with the old security bars formerly covering this home illustrates its burning desire to be a happy, safe family home once again turning the old days of fear into ash.
Back Story
The boards used for these doors were removed from the ceiling, walls and floor of this very room during the remodel. My goal was to create a single design that presented itself when both doors were closed and a border that spanned the sides and top to literally frame the entire piece. Incorporating the overhead beam into the design required us to relocate one wall in the bathroom completely, but the symmetry in the design was worth it. By walking through one of the open doors, you immerse yourself into the artwork.
This design incorporated a new type of depth for my custom doors by creating round “eye balls” located in the center of the sun, and at the top center of the border where the My Eye logo is subtly integrated. This was also my first use of inlays within the borders of a door.
